Nojel Eastern Enters Name into Transfer Portal

In a shocking result not many people were expecting, it was announced Tuesday afternoon that the 6’7 guard would be leaving Purdue during the off-season. This news comes at an awkward time as the senior to be had also just submitted his name for NBA Draft considerations. While it was presumed that he would return to Purdue, with this news it seems we have seen the last game he would play in the Old Gold and Black anyway.

It appears that Matt Painter is going to have the youth movement for this program sooner rather than later. As it stands right now, Purdue will have no Seniors on the roster for 2020-21. This opens up the door for the younger guys to get some experience early. Purdue will still return their top-3 scorers from 2019-20, as well as adding Brandon Newman and Mason Gillis off of redshirt. Then with the 2020 recruiting class, it seems that Jaden Ivey and Ethan Morton have a shot to see the floor and get minutes early in their Boiler careers.

This now gives Purdue 2 open scholarship slots and it will be interesting to see if Coach Matt Painter can find a quality grad transfer guard, or will they sit on the scholarship for the future?

As always, Boiler up, Hammer Down, Hail Purdue.
