Purdue vs Wisconsin Officially Canceled

Well, I don’t think anyone is too surprised by this one.
Wisconsin announced over the weekend that another 10+ individuals tested positive for COVID-19 and this began the thought that the Purdue game the following weekend was now in jeopardy. And today those fears came into reality as Wisconsin officially announced that they couldn’t reverse course and get under the required threshold to continue play.
This is a bit frustrating for Purdue fans as the team moved to 2-0 on this now 7-game season with the win over Illinois. There was also hope that this could be the year that the Boilermakers finally got off the snide and beat Wisconsin for the first time since 2003. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait another year before getting that opportunity.
If there is a positive note to this announcement, it’s that key players now get an extra week to heal up after some key guys went down with injuries over the first two weeks. Guys like George Karlaftis, Sam Garvin, and if it applies, Rondale Moore to name a few. It also gives the coaching staff some extra time to prepare for Northwestern the following week.
Speaking of that Northwestern game, 7:30pm eastern on November 14th could feature two unbeaten teams in the Big Ten West if the Wildcats can survive a plucky Nebraska squad this weekend. If Purdue is able to beat Northwestern, they would be in the drivers seat for the Big Ten West as the rest of the schedule does look rather favorable. Not saying it will be easy, but it would give Purdue some key tiebreakers as they go down the stretch of this shortened season.
2020 is pain as we all know, but at least our fans won’t complain as much as Nebraska’s did.
Boiler Up, Hammer Down, Hail Purdue!
