Former UCLA QB Transfers to Purdue
Purdue received some interesting news (Yahoo Sports) today as it came out that former UCLA QB Austin Burton has announced he is transferring to Purdue. Burton will come to West Lafayette after graduating from UCLA in 3 years and will have 2 years of eligibility remaining. He comes to Purdue after failing to beat out the current UCLA starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the starting spot. Burton was originally a 3-star prospect coming out of high school.
Burton had other interest from schools like Colorado, Vanderbilt, and Hawaii. He chose the Boilers because of the offense that Jeff and Brian Brohm run saying, “I like how they mixed in both the spread and pro-style,” Burton said. “I loved the whole offense and the way they go about it.”
Burton comes to Purdue with a career stat line of:
Throwing: 44-64 (68.8%) Completion / 365 Yds (5.7 Avg) / 1 TD
Rushing: 23 Att / 100 Yds / 1 TD
This will add an interesting wrinkle into the already fascinating QB competition that was already set to take place this fall between Jack Plummer, Aiden O’Connel, and incoming freshman Michael Alaimo. Whoever comes out of fall camp with the starting position will have earned it. I am looking forward to seeing how he can perform with these offensive weapons on this Purdue team. He will also come in with some experience that can be valuable to bring to a relatively young QB room
Welcome aboard Austin and we can’t wait to see you in the Old Gold and Black!
As always, Boiler Up, Hammer Down, Hail Purdue!
