Who am I?
I bet you are all wondering who exactly I am and what exactly I’m doing here.
Even if not, I’m here because I am passionate about Purdue sports and I wanted an outlet of my own to explore my passions and potentially build a community with which I can talk with other like-minded people about the most recent Boiler news, game result, or general experiences we have had at Purdue.
With all that said, I am Dakota and I am a Boiler uprooted and moved all the way to Texas. San Antonio to be exact! I graduated from Purdue in Spring of 2017 and can easily say that my 4 years in West Lafayette were the most fun, exciting, and influential years of my life.
I grew up in a small town close to Purdue (about 45 mins away) and growing up I played as many sports as I could all the way through high school. So with Purdue so close I was exposed to Purdue sports early and often. So it was no surprise that when I stepped foot on campus for the first time as a student in the Fall of 2013 that I immediately became a super fan of almost all of the sports programs!
As I’m sure most of us would love to forget, football wasn’t the most fun to follow from 2013 up to 2016. But I still made sure to be at ever game in the student section just waiting for the Boilers to put it together. So with football in the status it was in, I went in even more on my support of the basketball team. I went to every basketball game that I physically could, camping out for the big games, not being able to speak the next few days from screaming my head off in the Paint Crew.
As my 4 years came and went, football never took off and it was never what I thought it would be during my time there (little did I know that hope was so close on the horizon: Thank you Jeff Brohm). Basketball became my biggest passion as a fan as we saw Matt Painter turn things around and us fans finally got to see the program have some success. I will never forget that my last game in Mackey Arena as a student was the 2017 B1G Championship clinching win over Indiana in a rocking, sold out, and frenzied Mackey. That is something I will never forget.
So now that I have been out of school for a few years and living in a place where you’re much more likely to hear the phrases “Horns up”, “Gig-em”, and “Sic-em” than the tried and true “Boiler Up!”. I invite you to join me here as a place for those of us who want a place to enjoy our Fandom and enjoy Our Old Purdue!
Boiler Up, Hammer Down, Hail Purdue!
